Joshua Garcia

Joshua Garcia is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and a co-owner of Teknica, where he teaches across the kids, teens, and adult programs. He earned his black belt under Michel "Buiu" Pereira, and that lineage shows up in how he coaches: detail first, position before submission, and no shortcuts around the fundamentals.

Josh is an active competitor as well as an instructor, with IBJJF Pans gold to his name. Competition keeps his own game honest, and it feeds straight back into the room. The techniques he drills with students on a Tuesday evening are the ones being pressure tested at the highest levels of the sport.

Teaching Philosophy

Josh believes a beginner's first month decides whether they stay with Jiu-Jitsu for life. So he teaches the early classes himself, keeps groups small enough that nobody gets lost at the back, and makes sure every new student finishes their first session having actually learned something they can name. With the kids he is patient and direct in equal measure, focused less on trophies than on the habits that carry over: showing up, paying attention, and handling a bad position without panicking.
